John Tone

One of Caesar LaMonaca's favorite singers, basso John Tone was a frequent soloist at LaMonaca's Bayfront Park Band Shell concerts from 1956 to 1977. A versatile performer, his repertoire included selections from musicals, opera and popular song. As can be heard in the accompanying music files, Tone's vocal artistry met with great acclaim from appreciative Miami audiences.

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1920, Tone attended New York University, the National Academy of Vocal Arts and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. After serving in the Marine Corps during World War II, he eventually moved to South Florida where in addition to LaMonaca's band, he also sang with the Miami Opera Guild and in hotels, nightclubs, condos and other open-air concert venues in Miami and Miami Beach.

The father of two and grandfather of four, Tone lives with his wife in Lecanto, Florida.
